Dean & Melissa

Hello! It must be overwhelming —searching through these letters to find the right family. While we cannot fully understand what you are experiencing, we admire your courage and commitment in your journey.

If you choose us to raise your child, he/she will always know of your love. And in our home, your child will be secure, happy and loved unconditionally, in the same way as our biological daughter. May you find peace and happiness on whatever path you take.

Why Adoption? We've always pictured 2 or 3 children in our family, as we place great value in sibling relationships. After several years of trying to have a 2nd child and being diagnosed with infertility, we still have plenty more love to give.

So, we've decided the best way for us to grow our family is through the amazing gift of adoption. We're thrilled about it and we're blessed to have a number of friends who have adopted or who are adopted.

Who We Are... We're loving, happy, healthy, witty, respectful, intelligent, fun and financially stable. Neither of us have been married before and we've been together since 2001, married in 2002. Our personalities balance each other perfectly: one is quiet, one is vocal. One is detail oriented, one is big picture. One is decisive, the other... not so much.

Family and faith are our main priorities; and in addition to weekly services, we're very involved in our church. We also value trust, respect, hard work, responsibility, friendship, loyalty, honesty, and education.

About Dean...
"I admire Dean's patience. He's kind, caring and doesn't let a whole lot bother him." -Melissa

  • Family is his top priority
  • He is a twin. His twin sister, as well as his parents all live here in the Twin Cities
  • After attending the U of MN, he began working at the company where he still works today, as a software developer
  • Kids just love him! At church, it's pretty common to see a kid or two sitting on Dean's lap.
  • An avid bicycle rider, he does short trips to the park with our daughter and 30-60 mile organized rides
  • It's common to hear him strumming his guitar
  • He can fix almost anything
  • He loves being greeted to, "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy" as our daughter leaps into his arms.
  • "He is the best Daddy, EVER!" -says Daughter, Mia

About Melissa... "Melissa is an excellent wife & mother and takes great care of us—meeting our needs before we even know we have them." -Dean

  • Being an at-home mommy is her "calling"
  • Having planted hundreds of flowers, she's created a gorgeous backyard garden
  • She had a successful real estate career before becoming a stay-at-home-mom
  • Music has always been a part of her life. She has played many instruments and currently, she sings with our church worship team.
  • Her sister is her best friend
  • Her hobbies include scrapbooking, pottery, family photography, & other "crafty" type hobbies
  • A great cook and baker, she bakes several dozen holiday cookies, and she recently got into cake decorating

Mia, our daughter ...is such a happy little girl. We're regularly told, "She's such a delight." She's sweet, respectful, well-behaved and kind. She loves to color, play with Play-Doh, Barbies, and dress-up. As a family, we enjoy playing games, and she can sure whoop us in a game of Memory!

She is awesome with babies and toddlers and is excited to be a big sister. When saying her nightly prayers, she always asks God to bless her baby brother or sister, even though she doesn't know them yet.

Life with our family ...is about fun, whether it's with our extended family, friends, or just us. Most evenings, we have dinner together as a family...usually home cooked by one (or all!) of us. We're excited to share our passion for traveling with our children. In warm weather, we spend time outdoors: kicking a ball around the backyard, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, taking a walk, swimming or playing with the dogs.

When it's cold, we enjoy cards and board games... or sipping hot cocoa after sledding & making snowmen in the back yard. We feel blessed that Melissa can be an at-home parent and that is important to us. This means playdates, day-trips to the zoo, parks, gardens, malls, & other fun spots like the paint-your-own-ceramics place. Our kids, once in school, will also have mom there to put them on the bus & welcome them home with hugs and after-school snacks!

Our extended family is very supportive of our adoption decision and everyone is eager to welcome a new child into the family. We get together often with family for holidays, birthdays, other celebrations & "just cuz". Our suburban home is about fifteen minutes from Mall of America. With a tree-lined backyard, the nice lawn is great for playing ball, tag, running around, or swinging on the wooden play set.

Our Hope... We thank you for taking the time to learn about us & invite you to take a look at our photo album. Be assured that your child will always know that your decision was heartfelt and love driven. Our hearts go out to you as you continue your journey. If you feel that our family would be a good fit for you and your child, we would be honored to take the next step with you, in whatever way you're comfortable!
